This is Jan van Eyck’s town and the small museums here have a beautiful collection, not only of his works but of all who followed him. What you’ll see here is the mastery of oil paint. The thin layers upon layers of oil paint give the paintings a beautiful, jewel-like resonance and are beyond captivating.
In addition to this amazing collection of Netherlandish Masters, the Church of Our Lady in Bruges has the only work by Michelangelo to leave Italy. Now, admittedly, I am not a fan of Michelangelo.
