I recently took a trip to North East, and followed one of the popular itineraries: Darjeeling, Pelling and Gangtok. My experiences made me feel I should share, both good and bad parts of the trip, with other prospective travelers so that they have 10/10 experience

Life Hacks for the Trip/ Key Learnings:

  • Nathula Pass is a must visit, no matter what. It helps to have a connection in Army as they issue permits. Otherwise, during the season, probability of getting access is ~20% (little better than Tatkal ticket). Keep a day or two extra in Gangtok, to increase your chances of getting permit
  • Drivers are rude in this region and one should not expect much hospitality from them. They are with you only to drop from point A to point B, point B to point C, likewise and nothing more
